Rebecca occurs as 1940 film directed by Alfred Hitchcock as his first American project. An adjustment by Joan Harrison and Robert E. Sherwood of British author Daphne Du Maurier's 1938 novel Rebecca, it was produced by David O. Selznick.
Summary
Rebecca stars Laurence Olivier as Maxim de Winter, Joan Fontaine as his second married woman, & Judith Anderson as his late-wife's servant Mrs. Danvers. A film occurs as gothic tale all about a lingering memory of a title character, which however controls her married man, his freshly bride, & the housekeeper of their estate, Manderley, hanker when her demise. (A plot of the novel Rebecca is largely unchanged in the film.)
Inside Du Maurier's act, a 2nd married woman, world health organization narrated a tale, was never identified by title. This central character, played by Fontaine, remains nameless in the film besides, the hard effort for the film writer.
